2nd International Theater Festival Theater. Chekhov. Yalta, 2009
In 2009 Energobank sponsored the 2nd International Theater Festival Theater. Chekhov. Yalta, held at the Anton Chekhov Theater in Yalta. The festival was made possible in large part by a renovation of the theater, initiated and funded by National Reserve Corporation, a Russian industrial and financial holding company headed by Energobank Supervisory Board chairman Alexander Lebedev.
"Despite the efforts of numerous enthusiasts, the job was just not reaching completion. When Alexander Lebedev learned of the sad state of both the theater and the museum, he immediately took the matter into his own hands. Mr. Lebedev himself kept a close watch over the renovation process. The funds allocated for renovation and restoration were spent properly and with dedication."
Olga Lebedeva,
director of the Charitable Reserve Fund
The international festival Theater. Chekhov. Yalta is a contemporary project launched in 2008 in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Anton Chekhov Theater. The festival has brought together performing arts professionals from the world over, becoming a landmark event in the revival of Chekhov's theatrical traditions.
In 2009, theatrical groups from Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Russia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, and Mexico staged performances for the theater competition. A reputed international jury presided over by Nella Korniyenko, director of the Les Kurbas National Center of Theatrical Arts, evaluated the acting, conceptual and stylistic harmony, rendition, and conveyance of imagery. Among the guests of honor were such luminaries as John Malkovich, Lev Durov, Igor Kostolevsky, and Valery Zolotukhin.
The vision of the festival organizers is to promote festival and theatrical traditions, foster ties between theaters, and broaden the reach of the festival. An additional aim, no doubt, is to draw the attention of the theatrical and cultural community to the historical and cultural heritage of the Anton Chekhov Theater in Yalta.
3rd International Theater Festival Theater. Chekhov. Yalta, 2010
In 2010 Energobank sponsored the 3rd International Theater Festival Theater. Chekhov. Yalta in a continuing effort to facilitate the development of the performing arts in Ukraine and foster emerging cultural traditions.
Energobank has instituted a special festival award – “For Contributions to the Performing Arts in Ukraine.” The bank commissioned the prize from contemporary artist Dmytro Iva, whose works grace the collections of Patricia Kaas and Monica Bellucci and have achieved landmark status in a number of European cities. The prize was a bronze figurine stylized as a stage curtain to convey a sense of creative searching, as well as the atmosphere of Chekhov's theatrical traditions.
The Energobank award and honorary diploma “For Modern Rendition of Classics and Original Drama Techniques” were awarded to the Moldavian national youth drama theater From Rose Street, which staged a mythical drama titled Three-Seven-Ace, a take on Alexander Pushkin's story The Queen of Spades (directed by Yuriy Kharmelin).
Energobank management considers events of this kind to be vitally important and believes that this initiative presents an excellent example of partnership for other companies and customers of the bank to follow in preserving high standards of culture.
